Audition Date & Location

Auditions for the 2026–27 season will be held by individual appointment:

• Irving Arts Center · 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Suite 200 · Irving, TX 75062

Final appointment details will be shared with you directly. Slots are limited — we encourage you to reserve yours early.

What to Prepare

Strings — Violin I & II, Viola, Cello, Bass

• Two contrasting works totaling approximately five minutes (e.g., one movement of a concerto and a short excerpt from a Bach sonata or suite)
• Piano accompaniment is not required
• Brief sight-reading of an orchestral excerpt

Winds, Brass & Percussion

• Specific openings are advertised each season; however, musicians in these sections are always welcome to audition for our substitute roster
• Each summer, openings in woodwinds, brass, and percussion are posted for the upcoming season

Strings — Always Seeking Talented Players

As NPOI continues to grow its repertoire — including major works such as Mahler’s First Symphony — we actively welcome new string musicians at any time during the season, not only at formal auditions. Contact us to inquire about current availability.

Season Commitment

Rehearsals run from early September through May on Tuesday evenings, 7:30–10:00 PM at the Irving Arts Center. Dress rehearsals begin at 7:00 PM, with an additional Saturday rehearsal (1:30–4:00 PM) preceding each Sunday performance.

NPOI is a community orchestra. Most musicians participate out of a shared love of symphonic performance. Note: Stipends are provided for string principal positions and key winds.
