Every summer we post openings for the next season in woodwinds, brass and percussion. As we grow the orchestra and perform “big” works such as the Mahler 1st symphony, we are always interested in adding new string musicians!
Contact us whenever you would like, even during the season, to see if there are openings. You can e-mail our president, Jay Terpstra, to secure an audition time, at j.terpstra@sbcglobal.net.
Rehearsals during the season from early September through May are typically from 7:30-10 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Irving Arts Center, with dress rehearsals beginning at 7 p.m. and a Saturday rehearsal before our Sunday performances from 1:30-4 p.m.
Auditions for the 2025-26 season are scheduled for September 9th, from 5:30pm – 9:00pm at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., Suite 200, Irving 75062. A schedule will be posted a week prior.
The only paid positions are string principals. The principal bass position is open for the 2025-26 season.
To audition as a strings section musician – violin I and II, viola, cello and bass – please prepare approximately 5 minutes of two contrasting works – e.g. one movement of a concerto (no accompaniment required) and a short section of a Bach sonata or suite. You should expect a short sight-reading of an excerpt as well.
For specific positions in winds and brass, we advertise these positions, but you are welcome to audition for our substitute list.
