... coming Oct. 4 and 5 – ‘Musical Gold of Peru’!
with two young Peruvian violinists as guest artists

The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving, Dr. Sergio Espinosa, conductor, begins its 2014-15 season with a musical celebration of Peruvian culture, as the National Geographic Museum’s traveling exhibition of “Peruvian Gold – Ancient Treasures Unearthed” opens at the Irving Arts Center.

On opening weekend – Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5 – the New Philharmonic will present a pair of concerts with two young Peruvian violinists from Lima, Peru, Jesus Saenz and Edgar Valenzuela, soloists in music by Bach and Sarasate. The orchestra will also perform a selection of traditional Peruvian songs.

The Saturday (October 4) concert is at 8 p.m. at the Latino Cultural Center in downtown Dallas, 2600 Live Oak, with a reception open to all concert guests at 7 p.m., to welcome the Peruvian soloists and representatives of the Peruvian Consulate here.

On Sunday, (October 5), the orchestra’s Sundays at the Symphony series begins with the same concert at 3:30 p.m. at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd., where the exhibition of ancient Peruvian gold will be on display, from October 4 through December 31. This exhibition is being shown only in Washington, D.C. and in Dallas in the United States, before the art is returned to Peru.

North Texas’s Peruvian community and Peruvian Consulate members have been invited to participate in this celebration of Peruvian arts as the exhibition opens. Peru’s Consul General,
the Honorable Alberto Valencia, will welcome guests at the October 4 concert and the Deputy Consul, Augustin Palacios, will greet the audience at the October 5 concert.

For ticket information or reservations for either concert and for the exhibition, call the IAC box office, 972-252-2787, or go to www.IrvingArtsCenter.com. Box offices open one hour before each concert. General admission tickets are $10 for the October 4 concert, at the Latino Cultural Center, and range from $10 to $18 for the October 5 concert at Irving Arts Center.

This concert season is supported in part by the City of Irving through the Irving Arts Board.
The concert at the Latino Cultural Center is in partnership with LCC, with support from the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. Both concerts have media support from WRR 101.1.FM.
